This is the latest rabbit pulled out of Larry Kucharzs hat, and it does flap its ears! This is an intoxicated Pinocchio in a techno setting, a tumbleweed in dusty Midwest thirties, a roadrunner under a merciless Texan sun! Less could make you go nuts! Ive only experienced one other person with the same stubborn frenzy, the same lunatic, non-fearing edge, the same neither neither nor nor, and that was when Swedish wildman Sune Karlsson out of Danderyd descended on me with his twelve-hour Phonia Domestica household sounds from his tiny apartment! This Kucharz CD puts him in the same neighborhood as Karlssons, and that is a nutty place, believe you me
But we like it! You name it we like it!!!
Techno Unit 30 is a frantic play on rhythms, beats, flaps, gear-down, bouncing landings, steep take-offs and gear up and sometimes an auto-pilot going berserk in the airspace somewhere above the Iceland of the Tale of Njal! I think Kucharz had good fun putting this stuff together, and it doesnt have to be less fun listening to it or joining the intoxicated Pinocchio in a wooden-doll dance across a smoky floor under rotating, flashing epilepsy-inducing disco lights!
Sometimes this maddening pulsation gear down a bit, giving you the feel of strings, woods of strings, in broadside sweeps, like intros to late night television detective stories from out of the bell bottom seventies. Yeah, its a television show mania! You expect Isaac Hayes to turn up in the middle of it all, his deep voice scrambling to the forefront of the soundscape with the word Shaft! You dig, huh? This is hip stuff, man, like nothing Ive heard in a good while! Hip, fun, luny and theyre coming to take me away, haha, hehe, hoho!
Seriously, this IS fun, good nutty fun, from the inner reaches of Larry Kucharzs rotating spinning top, sideways across his American studio floor, into the street, up the exteriors of high-rises, disappearing between the clouds of brewing summer thunderclaps! Big circular saw blades wiggle their way through empty European police house corridors, out into the arbor of lofty maples, in the sweet scent of fondling air drifts
Larry keep on keeping on!
