Moving freely from avant-garde events to traditional concerts, the Bozzini Quartet was characterized by the Irish Times as a group which gets its teeth into music: quiet or loud, fast or slow, these Canadian musicians play with compelling engagement. Devoted to music as a universal language, these four young artists communicate an aesthetic that transcends the tastes of any particular era or musical tradition; playing music that is famous and music that is unknown, music familiar and music strange, music old and music new.
Discovery of the year at the Prix Opus 2001, the Bozzini Quartet presents around forty concerts a year, embracing a repertoire from the classic and romantic periods to the improvised music of today. The group especially enjoys collaborations with living composers, premiering quartets by Christian Wolff, Michael Oesterle, Malcolm Goldstein, Gerald Barry, Tom Johnson, Jean Lesage, and many others.
One of Canadas leading Quartets, the ensemble is in residence at Concordia University in Montreal with the production company Concerts M. Besides presenting its own concert series in Montreal, the Bozzini Quartet plays in many Canadian and American cities. Regular tours in Europe have taken the ensemble to Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and England. They have performed in major festivals and venues such as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Berlin MaerzMusik, June in Buffalo, Crash Festival in Dublin, Festival Montreal Nouvelles Musiques, as well as Merkin Hall (NY), CalArts (L.A.) Parkteatret in Oslo and Gare Du Nord in Basel. The Bozzini Quartet is frequently heard on CBC, Deutschlandfunk and Hessische Rundfunk.
Praised by the critics, the quartet's first CD Portrait of Montreal was released in fall 2004 on the collection qb label in collaboration with DAME. With this new collection of recordings , Quatuor Bozzini is pursuing its desire to explore the diversity of contemporary music. Their second recording, Different Trains of Steve Reich was released in the fall of 2005. The 2005-06 season includes, besides their Montreal series at the Chapelle St-Louis, concerts at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in Quebec City, in the SMCQ series, at the Théâtre La Chapelle as well as a European tour in March 2006.
