The Great Learning Orchestra has done a few things nobody believed possible. That is the nature of this wild – and wildly disciplined – bunch of mailing list musicians, freethinkers and boundary-breakers! Now they’re at it again! This time they will do Tobe Hooper’s the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, i.e. the MUSIC from that infamous movie.

The hard core of the of the orchestra gathered at SAMI in Stockholm on the 15th of May 2006 for a first meeting, to watch the movie, and solemnly try to just LISTEN to the sounds… It was hard, I tell you, because after all these years this horrific movie tends to make a truly comical impression, that Leatherface guy running through the underbrush, roaring his chainsaw, chasing a girl who runs and screams at the top of her lungs all the while – which is why the orchestra hollered with laughter all through the see-through/hear-through!

It was originally musician and writer Peter Bryngelsson who came up with the idea to work out a musical version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre soundtrack. He is also one of the guys behind a festival in Stockholm in June 2006: The Underscore Symposium, with the subtitle The Ultimate Seminar About Film Music. That, of course, is where a Chainsaw Massacre concert fits in! Bryngelsson – who recently participated on electric guitar when The Great Learning Orchestra played an Ulrich Krieger version of Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music at the Stockholm Culture House (February 2006) – immediately thought of the orchestra when the idea hit him to stage a Massacre concert!

The email that the artistic leader of the Great Learning Orchestra – Leif Jordansson – sent to the people on the GLO mailing list states the following set-up:

More meets – rehearsals – will take place before the concert at the Stockholm Culture House the 9th of June! Lets fill the location with roaring chainsaws and toxic fumes!
