Phonia Domestica
(household compositions; a sampler)

Sune Karlsson - Phonia Domestica - Sonoloco Records.
Duration: 74:25

These excerpts are but a minute fraction of all the sound investigations that Sune Karlsson (1946) performed in his tiny Stockholm apartment in August & September of 1988. All these sounds are raw and unprocessed - as found. In addition to these "investigations", Phonia Domestica also consists of a number of "extensions" and "exploitations", where Sune Karlsson uses the means of found sounds, creating longer household compositions, like, for example, "stockingrocking" (45 minutes of newly washed terry cloth socks being stretched), "rubberclubber" (45 minutes with the sound investigations of track no 15 on this CD, applied for more extended purposes), "frictioni 1" (45 minutes of a nylon thread being rubbed with a wet dishcloth, utilizing the cupboard door as a soundboard), "frictioni 2" (a wet rubber rake for 45 minutes), "grinderwinder" (an old almond grinder and a steel marble for 45 minutes), "raptapslapcrap" (30 minutes of a brass mortar and two knitting-needles), "ourawru" (14 minutes of two wooden ladles), "plumbingdrumming" (31 minutes of a steel pipe and a cardboard pipe), "clockmock" (15 minutes of two egg timers; one slightly defective), "knitwitbit" (two rubber bands & knitting-needles size 2,5 for 45 minutes), "chordoni 1 & 2" (90 minutes of four rubberbands and two different plastic bowls) and so on. The complete duration of Phonia Domestica is about 12 hours. Sune Karlsson uses a kind of makeshift latin for the titles of his investigations.
